There are 18 institutions of higher education in our city. Some of them are branches of Moscow and Novosibirsk institutions. Twelve of them train specialists in the field of information technologies.

In Omsk there are 30 formed groups of software developers.

The territory of Omsk region occupies the area of 139,700 sq. km. This area is bigger than Austria, Bulgaria or Hungary.

Such countries as Belgium, Netherlands, Switzerland and Albania all could be located on the territory of the region. Omsk industry occupies the fourth place in Russia in terms of total output. The main branches of industry are power engineering , fuel industry, chemical and oil industries; machinery-producing and metallurgy industries ; timber- and wood-processing industries.

Three fourths of the basic funds of the machinery-producing branch of industry belong to the armaments complex. The leaders of Omsk export are chemical, oil-chemical and oil- refinery enterprises.

The transportation net of the region consists of 1495 km of railways, 11418 km of trunk roads, 1252 km of inner shipping roads , 580 km of oil products pipe-lines of general usage.
